Hello, Kelly here! So nice to meet you!
A little about me…I use she/her pronouns and grew up outside of Asheville but have lived in the Piedmont of N.C. for 20+ years. I came to herbalism in mid-life after a long winding path working as a farm-hand on small sustainable vegetable and flower farms and after founding and running a non-profit called Transplanting Traditions Community Farm.
I grew up in a family of medical professionals & plant lovers and began learning to i.d. native wildflowers at a young age (shout out to my mom for modeling how to talk to plants). My obsession with plants, gardens and the wild stuck with me, but it wasn’t until mid-life, when I began to really tune inward to the questions about my own well-being and health, that I turned to herbalism. In 2016, I began my studies with the Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine. Since then I completed a year at the Terra Sylva School of Botanical Medicine and 2 more years with the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism’s clinical program.
I am trained as a clinical herbalist and specialize in understanding each unique human holistically with the ultimate goal of supporting the body's innate healing process. I love the magic, mystery and possibilities for healing that exist within our relationships to plants and the earth, and the genius and interconnectedness of the human body, mind and heart. I dream of a world in which modes of healing are dignified, radically holistic and available to all and I bring an anti-oppression and harm reduction lens and analysis to my work.
I am specifically interested in working with the multitude of ways that stress shows up as illness or imbalance in the body, mind or heart but my knowledge and experience extends beyond these areas. I have worked with clients with insomnia, hormonal imbalances (thyroid, uterine/ovarian), diabetes, digestive issues, grief, depression, anxiety and more. In my approach I weave together both a Western clinical and traditional Chinese medicine lens alongside modern science and research.
I am so grateful to live on a beautiful piece of land in Cedar Grove, N.C., an area that was once (and still is) stewarded by the indigenous people of the Ocaneechee, Saponny, Eno and Shakori tribes. I take great honor in caring for this land and in my gardens grow almost 40 medicinal plants for my apothecary that are used in custom formulas with clients.
My Guiding Principles & Values
-
CLIENT CENTERED
I honor and respect your knowledge and experience of your health. My role is to listen, connect the dots & provide you with vital health guidance, but ultimately I want to ensure you are sailing your ship.
-
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER
I love teaching my clients. The more we understand about our health patterns and body the more autonomy and power we have to make lasting changes.
-
INCLUSIVITY
My goal is to provide gender affirming, culturally competent, anti-oppressive based care. I am a life-long learner on the path to collective liberation.
-
ACCESSIBILITY
In my dream world, all people would have access to herbal knowledge and medicine. I offer a limited number of sliding scale options for clients with financial limitations and am constantly scheming on how to make my services affordable for those with restricted resources
-
TRADITIONAL WISDOM + MODERN SCIENCE
I love the interweaving of traditional herbal wisdom & modern science and believe herbs can complement modern medicine.
-
HOLISTIC MINDSET
Your mind, body & heart are connected. Environmental & socio-cultural factors affect your well-being. Using lessons from nature & ecology, we will look at all of these factors to address root causes of health imbalances.
